Today's parents and people around us are always encouraging us to keep going through "hard times" by saying "JUST BE POSITIVE". But have you ever thought if too much of positivity can even be inimical?
Toxic Positivity is feeling that, we have to be happy, if not we are ashamed of ourselves thinking that we are feeling sad. When we cry most of our parents say HEY DON'T CRY LIKE A BABY ALWAYS SMILE. What it actually means is that, this statement is forcing us for stop crying, put our real feelings behind and always SMILE. This is what toxic positivity is. These online days when students meet their teachers our teachers ask us "how are you all doing?", we respond "we are fine", rare students in the class say they are feeling exhausted, sad and etc but, most of the time our teachers ignore it . This is the current situation of our society, we have to open our eyes and see what are we really doing. Now you might be wondering what are the harmful effects.
How do you recognize if you are in grip of toxic positivity-
YOU WILL RUN AWAY FROM PROBLEMS
HIDING FEELINGS
TELLING OTHERS THAT IT IS NOT GOOD TO FEEL SAD.
TRYING TO IGNORE PROBLEMS BY SAYING "I WILL GET OVER IT."
